Meeting for GED

I guess I decided to use the GED meeting as a subject line of my journal today because it is the biggest thing in my life right now. It's the only life changing thing going on right now. Lorretta, my case worker for my GED, wants me to come in on Wednesday and sit down and talk to her about taking my GED sooner than planned and closer to where i live. I am all game for that. I just want to get this over with and go on with my next step. My next step will be finding a job and then going to college but not necessarily in that order.

This morning was really cold. I despise cold mornings. I already have a hard time getting out of bed. I really don't have any reason to get out of bed today. How many times can you clean a small trailer? There just isn't anything else for me to do.

My ten year old daughter is failing school. I think part of it has to do with the fact that she just cant sit still or keep organised. I think she is a dreamer. There isn't anything wrong with that as long as you dream when you shouldn't be learning your school work. I have to call the eye doctor today for her. She has now managed to break three eye glasses in the last year. It is getting to be too expensive!! She is something else. You would think my boys would be the destructacons but no it is her. She is hard on her clothes and everything else around her. She broke the zipper on her book bag. I don't have anywhere around here to get her a new one. She is a joy sometimes. My 16 year old son has used the same book bag for two years now. She is definitely a very high maintenance child. But I love her just the same.

Well I am going to go and get a hot bowl of soup and maybe read my book. I have been reading about Mystic places. I love reading about the pyramids and Stonehenge etc... I love reading non fiction books. I am not much reading books that don't have some kind of true information in them. I hope everyone stays warm.

Hi Christine, maybe you can sit with your daughter each evening and help her with her school work so she doesn't fail. I used to keep the TV off on week nights until all school work was done. The kids didn't like it very well but it helped them to get good grades and pass all their classes. It's really important for all kids to get good grades, especially girls. I know you'll do well on your GED. Take care, Linda in Washington state

I think Linda has a great idea...I bet your daughter is really smart, it just sounds like she needs to learn how to focus, and maybe you can help her with that.

Keep us posted on the GED! We're all pulling for you!

Hugs, Beth

Good luck with your GED!! I am hoping and praying for ya!
Well I agree with Linda and Beth. Sit down with your daughter each night and help her with her homework, and no tv or computer or whatever till its done.

My oldest daughter always needed this, she needed to have quiet to get her work done, and I needed to ask her to do it every single day..it wasnt until THIS YEAR, that she does it on her own. She is 14. Now, my youngest daughter she has always been extremely organized and does her homework everywhere, all the time. She's very hyper and she doesnt set it down till its done and she does it even when its noisy around. She usually needs some help and I will sit with her and do it. Make sure you know what her schedule at school is, what days they go to the library, music class, or whatever. Find out how her homework is given and when it is due. Some teachers do it by giving a homework packet which is due at the end of the week (thats how ours has always been done) and some teachers still give nightly homework to bring in the next day. Either way, just get into the habit. After she's had a few minutes to relax and have a snack and tell you about her school day, go through her homework together. If she is like most elementary school kids she is required to read for 20 minutes a night, ask her. If you really want to know how to help her, ask her teacher. Send her an email or call her, most teachers LOVE it when a parent is concerned and wants to help.
good luck Christine!

Wishing you the best with the GED!

As for your daughter, I was a dreamer myself, staying focused on a teacher talking in the front of a room was very difficult for me.

Finally the teachers put in me in the front and she would walk by and lightly tap my desk to get my attention. It's good to make the teachers aware of the situation so they can help her keep focused. To this day, I have a hard time staying focused and my dreams/thoughts will take me else where.

As for what Linda wrote - my parents did that to me and I also did that to my children and it truly helps.
